After teaching high school chemistry for over ten years, I taught at a small school where I did not have the funds to order chemicals or materials. I had to use what was in the lab and buy other supplies I needed at local stores.
A teacher new to a school doesn't usually have science department budget money to finance class activities. By the summer, the funds available have already been used to purchase materials or are allocated for other purposes. At the end of that challenging school year, I realized that not everyone has experienced so many laboratory activities and I wanted to share chemistry labs for the teacher with limited supplies and funds.
The labs contained in this book are designed for a classroom that has a water supply, access to ice, beakers, test tubes, stirring rods, graduated cylinders, thermometers, rulers, and a laboratory balance (electric or triple beam). You will have to purchase extra supplies at locations such as a grocery store, dollar store, craft store, or general-goods store. Some supplies can be ordered on the Internet.
Each lab is presented with two possible report formats -- both with the same procedure -- one with 10 questions to be answered as a conclusion, the other with a full laboratory report required. This was to give the teacher the option of what type of report is desired!
