The book Chemistry on a Budget contains inexpensive chemistry labs that are useful with easy to obtain materials.
The early labs include the topics of Significant Figures, Density (3 labs), the Separation of a Mixture (including coverage of Percent Composition), and Liquid Chromatography. These are safe labs that cover essential information, giving you time to emphasize Lab Safety and get Lab Safety Contracts signed.
There are two versions of each lab, one with a ten-question conclusion and one with directions for a full lab report. This way the teacher has the option! Each lab is two pages to allow for one two-sided handout.
You can buy this lab book for $23 at amazon.com or lulu.com. It will take 1-2 weeks to get to you -- Order Now. It’s a great resource!

*Some of you have already purchased my lab book – be sure to check out Page 141 !
The school’s Library is a great resource – if you can find the time, check it out!
Past blog posts include:
03/25/2015 Your School Library
11/27/2015 Your School Library II
You can check with your fellow teachers to see if they have used the Library, or if past Staff Development time has been devoted to it. Introduce yourself to the Library staff and check when would be a good time to visit and see what resources are available. Set up a tour for yourself!
If a staff development has not occurred, suggest it to the leaders in your department. The entire staff can find it helpful!
Having movies available are handy -- to expand the experience for your students, to help visualize chemical interactions, and to include in substitute teacher plans.
Recently on PBS, Forces of Nature: Shape (54 minutes) was shown.
Here is the Forces of Nature website:

The full video online:

To keep students on task, they can be required to report 10 facts from the video.
Since this movie is 54 minutes, you may want to show it in two 20-30 minute segments.
